I’ve done it again!

I’ve done it again haven’t I?  I was going to write a Saltbury short story, called ‘Jenny’, about sports mad Jenny Marlow.  That was the plan. It would be just a little thing to take me from ‘Carol’ to the next Tina book, which is provisionally called ‘History Girls’, and would deal with a fairly significant event without me then having to fill a big six month hole in which nothing much happens, before the story of ‘History Girls’ gets properly under way.  Better still, it could also be the last in the short story set ‘Saltbury Tales’, which I’ve talked about here before and which is otherwise finished.

Well according to Wikipedia the lengths of such things are defined as:

Short story. under 7,500 words
Novelette. 7,500 to 17,499 words.
Novella. 17,500 to 39,999 words
Novel. 40,000 words and over.

Humn! well, I’ve just finished the first draft of ‘Jenny’. Guess how big it is: 26,000 words, or about 50 pages. Oops! But then even the shortest in the collection is almost 12,000. Hopefully I can edit it with a machete. Still at least June Brassington gets red wine poured over her posh silver-look dress when she seriously upsets her girlfriend. I never did like her very much.
