In my sleep.

It’s been a funny sort of a day. There is a particular passage in my next book ‘Sisters’ that I’ve been dreading having to write. I won’t tell you what it’s about, because the whole story turns on it, so it would give too much away. In fact it’s pivotal to the whole Saltbury series. But I’ve had this particular bit plotted for a couple of years now, so I knew it was coming. The trouble was that although I knew the basic outline, I had no idea how to write it and as the moment loomed closer, it was starting to scare me, because some very complex emotions had to be just right if it was going to have the impact it needed.

Well I woke at one o’clock this morning with an idea. I normally write straight onto the computer, but I always keep a notebook and pencils by my bed in case I get ideas during the night, so I thought I’d jot down my idea before I forgot it. Seven straight hours of furious scribbling later, I have sore fingers, a draft of the whole section that’s 40 hand-written pages long, and interestingly a story that doesn’t quite happen as I’d expected. Trust my character Hazel to improve on my ideas for me. All I have to do now is type it all up, and hopefully polish it a bit in the process. But first I think I might deserve a few hour’s sleep.
