I’ve been having a bit of a re-think lately. I had been planning that the next of the ‘Saltbury’ series to come out would be ‘Martine’: the prequel book about how Hazel’s mums, Debbie Stewart and Martine Fauld, first fell in love. But I’m starting to think that might be wrong.
I’ve had a book written for over a year now called ‘Saltbury Tales’. They’re not exactly short stories. They’re too long for that. One is over 25,000 words. They are more like a collection of seven mini novels that let some of my characters who don’t normally narrate draw you a little further into their lives. The stories range from the 1970’s onwards and give us more about tugboat skipper, Chantel Barham; Hazel Fauld’s namesake and godmother, Hazel Clearwater; Carol’s now hated first girlfriend, Loren; Ruth and Aleyse, and more recently Yvonne and Lexi.
The stories might give you a few surprises and I think ‘Martine’ will make a lot more sense once you’ve heard them. So I think I’ll reverse the order I’d been planning so that ‘Saltbury Tales’ will be published in March and ‘Martine’ in July.
I hope you like them.
