My new book ‘Gold’ came out on 10th July.  It’s the 14th in my ‘Saltbury Chronicles’ series and had taken a month longer than usual, thanks to illness, but I must confess I think it’s my best yet, and it’s been a lot of fun to write.

‘Gold’ centres on Tina and Carol.  I put the two of them through some pretty rough times in previous books, as the former pupil and the teacher she once hated met again and came through some stormy passages as these very different women fell in love and tried to get to grips with a totally different relationship.  They are very happy together now though, and starting to achieve their ambitions in wider life.  Tina is now a trainee lawyer and Carol has reached the summit as an athlete by winning Olympic Gold.

Tina and Carol are now a real team and when they find themselves embroiled in the investigation of an international drug cheating scandal in athletics the two work together, despite the best efforts of Carol’s first love, the aristocratic Loren.

The story is sort of a thriller, but of course it wouldn’t be Saltbury without romance and comedy.  Loren herself was great fun to write.  She’s so snobbish, supercilious and yet more complex than she seems.  In fact she’s a goodie far more than a baddie.  The Saltbury Police force produces some hilarious moments.  Katie is irrepressible as ever.  Oh and Tina and Carol’s cat is so sweet.  I hope you’re going to like it.
