It’s been really interesting letting my characters age. When the Saltbury series started my two main characters, Hazel and Tina, were sixteen year old school girls, just finding out who they were. Hazel was convinced she was overweight and unattractive. Tina was just starting to flower into the truly beautiful woman she became, but still thought of herself as the rather gawky pre-teen she’d once had been.

In ‘Millie’ they are almost 40. Tina is the mother of a rebellious 11 year old and is starting to find silver threads in her spectacular red hair and is worrying that her wife doesn’t find her attractive anymore, while Haze is a Rock star whose wife Annie still utterly adores her.

But one thing hasn’t changed. They’re still the best friends in the world.
