Some authors write books directly onto computer. Others like to do their first drafts long hand with pen and paper and only type them up later. I tend to do a bit of both. About half is typed from the start, but when the weather is nice I love to write in the park. I write in doctors’ surgeries, on trains, or when waiting for the dentist, so I always carry a notebook and pencils (rather than pens). In winter I sometimes write tucked up warm in bed. Then I type up later. Yes, it’s more work that way, but actually, typing up my pencil versions is more or less also my first edit, so what ends up on the computer is often very different to what was in my notebook. Each to their own I guess. There’s no right way, just the way that suits you.
