Building Worlds.

I’ve always tried to build real, believable worlds in my novels, with plenty of texture and detail about both people and places.  At the same time, it’s not the real world.  There is no Saltbury, at least in our universe, although other places mentioned do exist, not least […]

Happy Valentine.

A very happy Valentine’s Day from Hazel, Tina, Carol, Deb & Martine, Annie, Roisin, Yvonne, Monster and sweet little Dannie. Oh, and me of course, Jo Brodie. It must be a nightmare dating in a pandemic with lockdowns and everything closed.. I’m so grateful to my own Valentine […]

Tina Burns: a history.

A while ago I talked about the big change that occurred in one of my central characters, Annie Roberts, between the ‘Saltbury Chronicles’ as I originally planned them and the way they eventually turned out.  There is another much bigger change, though. As it says elsewhere on this […]

New book goes to the editor.

Wow! Another allnighter and ‘Sisters’ is all packed up and ready to go to be edited.  Roll on the red ink on No’ 7 in the Saltbury Chronicles series. It should be published on Kindle in early April. Meanwhile I’ll start on the next in the series, ‘Roisin’.

Happy Endings.

People tell me it’s bad form to laugh at my own jokes (something I do all the time). So is it bad form to cry at my own happy endings? I’ve just been having another read through the end of my next book, ‘Sisters’, now I think I’ve […]

When I was first planning the Saltbury series I had four main characters in mind.  First, there were Debbie Stewart and her beloved wife, Martine.  These two were meant to be the central figures, but somehow Hazel, the younger of their two daughters, muscled in and rather took […]

Hazel Fauld’s schooldays.

Now that my main characters, Hazel and Tina, are at University, I find myself getting nostalgic for ‘Hazel Fauld’s Schooldays’ (I would use that as a title, but it’s sort of been done). Anyway, the book after ‘Sisters’ (which comes out in April) will be called ‘Roisin’ and […]

It’s not snowing!

Just at the moment almost everyone I know seems to have snow. Not us, though. The Manchester local climate is famously mild, so we just have hours of depressing rain. Instead, here is a little extract from the second Saltbury book, ‘Annie’ and a double Games lesson in […]

My new Book, ‘Carol’ is out.

My new book came out on Amazon Kindle in November and is now available on  amazon.co.uk, amazon.com and worldwide. ‘Carol’ is the second in the sub-series narrated by Tina Burns and begins literally the day after the end of ‘Red’. Or to quote the cover blurb: “Our favorite redhead – […]
